Cherry Blossom season in Sydney

It’s that time of year again for Sydney’s Cherry Blossom Festival! For those that have wanted to see these beautiful flowers in Spring but don’t have the chance to fly to Japan, this is the perfect option featuring more than 1700 trees in full bloom. Shad and I had the chance to visit last year and the flowers were stunning! From what I remember, there are multiple lawns that you can take a walk through, coming to a stop at the famous Cherry Trail where all the instagrammable shots are taken.

We won’t be attending the festival until this Friday but I thought I would get a blog post out about the event as soon as possible so Sydney siders can attend. Many are unaware of the festival dates but it ends very soon – this weekend! The reason being is because the cherry blossoms can only bloom in a certain time window, so this year’s festival was set from 17th August – 25th August.

This year, Cumberland Council is also bringing famous Japanese characters like Hello Kitty and Gudetama, and they will also feature in the gardens (perfect for those with little children!) You can pre-pack your own lunch and eat within the grounds, or get some food from food trucks with Japanese fusion flavours. We’ll be heading to enjoy the atmosphere and walk around the festival – we’re most looking forward to trying their exclusive ‘Cherry Bento Box’ put together by former Masterchef winner Adam Liaw.

If you’re also visiting during the weekends, you’ll get to experience the festival’s ‘Hanami Weekend’ which includes food, flowers and feel good activities for every age. Check their website here for more info.

I can’t wait to share the photos I took with you all! I’ll be updating this blog post after Friday with the photos, but in the meantime I’ve created a mood board of the look and feel of this festival so you guys can get a little bit of inspo before you visit. Cumberland Council have also been kind enough to send over some official photos of the festival so you can get an idea of what’s on.
